Recently, Newsweek announced that we’d been selected as one of America’s Best Companies for Customer Service by Newsweek in 2019. Specifically, Handyman Matters is the #1 Brand in the Handyman Referral Service and Home Repair category.
So, how did we earn this prestigious award? While we believe there are a myriad of reasons, we really focus on the three core values:
Handyman Matters rated one of America’s Best Companies for Customer Service
First, we focus on our customers. We know you have choices among companies, and we know that your home is extremely important to you. For this reason, we developed and implemented a Customer Experience Program we call Service Path. We designed this program to ensure that we consistently treat you as an individual and exceed your expectations at every point of the Customer Journey.
Second, we possess a TEAM of employees who embrace our culture of values & ethics and the desire to do the right thing at all times. We all believe in our mantra of helping you love your home, and this is demonstrated by our Guarantee and our “Like it’s our Home Promise”. Simply put, We Are Different!
Third, our goal is to earn your Trust and become your Home Ally. This cannot be achieved by focusing only on making repairs or updating a bathroom. The process also involves your experience with Handyman Matters from the moment you contact us to the moment our Craftsman leaves your home after completing a job. Throughout that time, we ensure that we communicate with you consistently and effectively. We even send “On My Way” Text Notifications so that you know when our Craftsmen are on their way to your residence. Oftentimes it’s the small things that really count!
Rest assured that we do not take earning the Newsweek award lightly. We continually strive to improve the Customer Experience that we provide our customers day-in and day-out.
Thank you for choosing Handyman Matters and for helping us to earn the distinction as one of America’s Best Companies for Customer Service. See the results here.
The Cabinet Niche - Small Job Cabinet Repair Services
We’ve had a lot of jobs over the years that have involved some kind of cabinet repair. We’ve replaced cabinet hinges, missing cabinet doors and drawers. We have also repaired drawers that don’t slide right or don’t work at all. We’re definitely not your typical cabinet installers, but we have great trim carpenters that love the small jobs that the cabinet companies don’t want.
I haven’t surveyed every cabinet company, but I’ve learned that most cabinet companies hate to fix people’s work and they don’t like small re-work or repair jobs. We do.
Over the years, we’ve been using Chaparral Cabinetry in Boerne, TX to help us out with our cabinet repair projects. Recently, they put me in touch with Decore-Ative Specialties that streamlines our repair projects even more. They are built to single match cabinet doors and stain them to match the existing finish and color. They also have all the hardware we need.
Decorative Specialties has been huge for us by providing a fast turnaround, affordable prices, and great products. So, when we need two cabinet doors for a customer and part of the face frame stained to match, it’s pretty painless. We love to solve problems for our customers, so they don’t have to jump through hoops to get one measly cabinet door made and installed. It’s our small job cabinet niche repair service. Try us out.
Adventures in Door Replacements
We have replaced interior and exterior doors for clients with great results over the past few years. While replacing doors isn’t exactly easy, there are lessons that we have learned along the way that have made door replacements a lot easier. A successful door replacement starts with the data collection phase of the project, then ordering the door from a knowledgeable vendor, delivery of the door, then then proper installation.
The data collection starts with a site visit to the customer’s house or business. Handyman Matters first inspects the state of the door in question. If it is an exterior door, we look at the base of the door jamb or the brick mold for signs of rot, then the base of the door itself for swelling and expansion. These areas give us direction on whether to replace the entire door and casing assembly or just the door slab itself. The easiest replacement is our goal, so if the casing and jamb are in good shape, we’ll recommend just replacing the door slab only. If it is the door and casing assembly that are rotting, then we measure for the rough opening requirements. We like to leave a half-inch of clearance between the edge of the door casing and the existing door framing. That allows us proper adjustment space and a tighter fitting door installation.
Using the right door vendor makes a huge difference too. For a long time, we used two major door companies, but we kept getting mixed results due to lack of knowledge and customer service. Even when we’d provide good information, getting the door we ordered right was hit or miss. One day, we stumbled across a Buie Lumber Company as we were purchasing some siding. We had not considered them an option for having our door needs met. Nowadays, our sales representative is super thorough and has a great understanding of the nuances of ordering doors for most scenarios we face. Ordering doors from them has provided much improved quality control because they make sure to ask us detailed questions for each order. If there is a problem, our sales guy will even come out to the job site to help solve any problems fast. Luckily, this has only happened twice, but each time the problem was solved quickly.
We usually pickup our doors from Buie Lumber the day before the installation and then deliver them to the job site so the craftsmen can carry them into place on the morning of the install. Our installation always starts with a final measurement of the door to be replaced before we take the old doors out as a final precaution. It typically takes two craftsmen a full day to replace a French door and trim it out or for a single door replacement; it’ll take one craftsman about 4 to 6 hours. Doors do require experience and foresight, but we’ve learned how to make these projects successful for our customers.
Some of the door projects we’ve completed include numerous French Doors, a wall of French Doors to replace a garage door, many exterior and interior single doors, replacement of window inserts, and door adjustments. If you need helps with your door project, just give us a call!
