Bathroom Modification for Wheelchair

How to remodel your small bathroom for wheelchair access

The diagram below shows a simple solution to remodel a small, typical, 5′ x 8′ bathroom.

Notice the major difference is widening the bathroom doorway. Bathroom doors are  usually the smallest in your home. Typically 24″ to 30″.  The bathroom door needs to be widened to at least 34″ and sometimes to 36″.

In this diagram the sink, toilet and bathtub/shower did not have to be moved or modified.

Not only widening the bathroom door, but also converting it to an out-swing door, gives the bathroom room for your wheelchair to maneuver in.
