Spring Maintenance Tips For Wichita

Home Repair & Handyman Services For Springtime

Warm weather is right around the corner, and now is the perfect time to evaluate your home for any maintenance that might be needed after the cold and dreary winter. Here’s a brief checklist of spring maintenance projects to consider as you’re preparing for spring and summer:

  • Check Your Outdoor Lighting Fixtures: The days are getting longer, and that means that we’ll all want to be outside later. The kids will be playing in the backyard, and you’ll be happy to relax on your porch or deck. Stay prepared by double checking all your exterior lighting, including porch lights, flood lights, and decorative pathway lighting. Replace any burnt-out bulbs, and if you encounter any serious issues with mounting or wiring, our craftsmen will be happy to help.
  • Clean Out Your Gutters & Downspouts: We all know that with spring comes the rain; make sure your that any leaves or debris that may have accumulated in your gutters & downspouts over the winter is cleared out to keep your home safe and dry. Clogged gutters can cause water damage and wood rot to your roof, walls, and siding, and can sometimes even be taken over by nesting birds and squirrels. Assuring that your gutters are clear and draining properly can help reduce the risk of these problems.
  • Repair Screen & Storm Doors: Screen doors are particularly succeptible to damage during the winter due to high winds and inclement weather. Make sure all your exterior doors are functioning properly and undamaged. This includes inspecting the door frame and caulking or molding, assuring that the cool air from your air conditioner isn’t leaking from your home.
  • Inspect Water Spigots: If you’re eager to revitalize your lawn after the long winter, then you’ll want to make sure that your water spigots are in working order. If there was any residual water left in the spigot (or in a hose that remained attached to the spigot), that water may have frozen and damaged the plumbing. Check to make sure that all spigots are working, but if you find yourself in need of plumbing repairs, Handyman Matters is here for you.
