There are many choices in flooring today, and Handyman Matters can handle all of them except unfinished woods and carpet.

Pre-Finished Woods:

• There are many manufactures today that produce a factory finished hardwood.
• The advantages are:
  • The wood is kiln dried, stained and finished at the factory.
  • As soon as the wood is installed you can walk on it and use the floor.
  • It is a solid wood product.

Engineered Wood:

• There are also many choices in Engineered woods.
• The advantages are:
  • The engineered wood product backing is more directionally stable than a solid piece of wood, leading to a wider range of sub-floor material that the floor can be installed on.

Laminates, Linoleum and Vinyl:

• Here, the choices are almost endless.  There are hundreds of choices, in colors, styles, and types.
• The advantages are:
  • Laminates are a durable, good looking floor that will hold up to most traffic and abuse.  Laminates do not do well in a wet environment, such as heavily used bathrooms, and under pet feeding areas.
  • Vinyl has come along way, there are several manufacturers that are making a high grade heavy weight vinyl that is approaching laminates in quality and appearance.  It can stand up to heavy abuse, and water does not impact this type of flooring.
  • Linoleum has continued to be a mainstay of flooring for kitchens and baths.  It is a durable product that can stand moderate abuse and wet environments.

Tile:

• Tile, like wood is a classic flooring material, and can be used in every room in your home.  There are thousands of choices in color, size and texture, to match any budget and decor.
• The advantages are:
  • It is a durable timeless product that can last a lifetime when properly installed.
  • It can withstand wet environments and high traffic areas.
