Handyman Matters Bath Tub and Shower Area Caulking

Caulking is an important part of any repair or renovation in your bathroom.

It serves two basic functions:  First, as a sealant against moisture ingressions, and secondly, to provide a visually pleasing surface on joints, such as between fixtures and wall or floor finish material.

It’s important to remember that caulk is no substitute for careful detailing and workmanship, which solves most moisture and visual problems, but there are always situations where some caulking is required.

You should choose your sealants and caulks as carefully as you would your finish materials and fixtures.  A variety of different caulking materials are available, ranging from latex to acrylic to silicone.  Each comes with its own set of advantages and drawbacks, so judicious research prior to any do-it-yourself caulking projects is a must.  Though the process may seem fairly simple and straightforward, if you aren’t well-versed and experienced at the process, you may be better served by engaging the services of Handyman Matters professionals to ensure long-lasting quality results.
