How to Maximize Communication on the Job

Do you know where your contractor is? That same popular line that news anchors used to remind people to keep an eye on their children rings true for the remodeling and renovation industry too. Lines of communication can be the make or break between an “OK” job and a “great” one.

While lines of communication can keep job status up to date, it still doesn’t mean that the job is the top priority of the contractor.  Some jobs might take priority over others, but they still shouldn’t have to wait.  Hiring a contractor requires building a relationship that’s based on trust – you need to know that the other person will be there when you need them.

Most home improvement companies require a long lead-time in order to schedule a craftsperson for the job. From the time you first call to get a quote, it could potentially be five to seven weeks before they’re actually ready to execute your job.

On top of that, it’s a pretty typical industry standard to be charged a two to four hour job minimum – often without a quote provided. Handyman Matters operates differently.

Our minimum is one hour and in most cases you will have an idea of how long the project will take before we even arrive. If we can’t provide you with a time frame over the phone, our craftsperson will provide you a time frame when he or she arrives. The craftsperson is there to work for that hour, so we encourage all of our customers to create a list, test our company and get your money’s worth.

We’re also generally able to start your project within a few days after you call – not the standard five to seven weeks. How readily we can respond to emergencies depends on our schedule, but we pride ourselves on being able to quickly accommodate last minute requests.
