I just wanted to provide a bit of feedback on my experience with Handyman Matters.
One of your handymen, Joe, came out this morning to do a number of jobs, from hanging pictures to looking at the HVAC, to unraveling a couple of strange electrical issues I’ve been having.
I don’t often write e-mails like this, but my experience with Handyman Matters – from setting the appointment through Joe’s visit – was so terrific that I had to let you know. Hopefully this feedback will make its way up to Janet Asbury. She’s running a fantastic operation.
I was impressed by all correspondence as I set up the appointment, had fees and process explained to me, and received friendly reminder calls prior to my scheduled appointment. You can’t beat the articulate, friendly, competent first impression that was made during my initial contact with the company.
As for my handyman, Joe was amazing – he even pointed out (and fixed) a plumbing issue that I hadn’t realized existed. He was in and out of here in a flash, despite troubleshooting several strange electrical issues, running out to buy a new breaker for me, and discovering that ComEd has been overcharging me for service for the last eight months. Joe’s definitely a natural-born teacher as well – I learned more about HVAC and electrical today than I imagined I’d ever know. To my surprise, it turned out to be pretty interesting. I really appreciated the fact that Joe didn’t just fix my issues, but explained why they had occurred, and how I could keep things working better in the future.
I’ve already posted my extremely positive review to Yelp.com, the site on which I heard about Handyman Matters.
Keep up the great work – I’ll be calling the next time I have a problem, and I’ll be recommending your service to everyone else in my condo association.

Joe was the electrician sent out. Joe has to be one of the most professional, friendly, honest and skilled service professionals we've ever dealt with. Worked quickly and was very knowledgeable and thorough in diagnosing the panel noise. If Joe is the guy that Handyman Matters sends out, then you are in good hands! Our experience from start to finish was very positive. We were able to set up an appointment within the week. The service person, Orlando, confirmed the appointment time the night before and actually arrived early for the appointment the next day. He was extremely courteous and helpful and did a great job. Joe was incredibly personable and a fantastic communicator. Both craftsmen were able to provide me multiple options for an electrical issue in a way that made me feel educated and empowered to direct how work was to be completed. I've had others do electrical work and was skeptical about using a handyman service. They were better! They kept my house incredibly clean - even with having drywall dust created. I just wanted to let you know that Mark and John did a wonderful job for me. They were prompt, courteous and very conscientious. Due to the odd configuration of my main room, there are more than 20 corners that go in and out and I chose a very wide molding due to my tall ceilings, so it was a difficult task. However, they came up with a good solution for places where the molding could not go around the protrusions from the wall and the finished work looks great. They also took care of a few other odd jobs that have been on my to-do list for a long time and did a good job cleaning up. Thanks again!

I am very happy with how everything turned out. Carmello was great, professional, creative, on time, etc. I did go onto Angies list and do an evaluation too. I expect that some time in the spring I may want help preparing my counter top for ceramic tile. I can lay the tile and the group, I will need help with the underlayment plywood, and if necessary removing the sink, etc. It is a tiny counter with about 18 sq. ft. so I don’t think that will be too bad. I showed it to Carmello who I am sure could handle it.

If you need a handyman service to perform repairs, electrical work, plumbing, drywall, painting, etc., I would like to recommend Handyman Matters Chicago. Some of you may have read about Handyman Matters in
the Wall Street Journal recently, which is how I learned about them.
The Chicago franchise is owned by a woman (a bonus in my book), it is very well organized, all handymen are insured/bonded, the handyman who came to do my repairs was extremely conscientious and courteous and called the night before to confirm the time and nature of repairs, and the work he did was great.
(As a single woman living alone, I also
liked the fact that they do full criminal background checks on their
employees, etc. which was a focus of the Wall Street Journal article.)
I thought the rates were very reasonable.
